20 May Weekend Roundup 18-19 May 2019
Saturday saw the third race in the Club Off Road Championships, and an ideal opportunity to combine a trail run with a day out at a country show, in this case the Royal Welsh Smallholding and Countryside Festival at Builth Wells Showground. Great weather for racing and a challenging, picturesque course….and our ‘mature’ team did the Club proud, albeit with unique ways to prepare. Malcolm Bradley chose to stop off at Merthyr parkrun “to warmup” on the way there, Yvonne Williams was partying with Wet Wet Wet into the early hours of Friday morning, and Simon Williamson decided to test his cross country driving skills to the max, arriving with about 10 minutes to spare; meanwhile Shirley Howman arrived in good time and was able to have a relaxed stroll around the showground.
The men had a cat and mouse battle around the course, until the inevitable result on the final downhill run-in, with Malcolm ‘turbo-charging it’ to the line and taking 1st place in the MM65 Age Category. Simon came in shortly behind (shaking his fist!), with the consolation of 1st place in the MM60 Category. Meanwhile Yvonne was having her own battle with Rose Thomas (Rhayader Running Club), with Rose pipping our girl to the top spot in MW65 by just 20 seconds. Shirley found the hills quite tough, but battled on for 15th in MW55 Age Category.
Results: 73rd Malcolm Bradley 53:44, 75th Simon Williamson 53:59, 140th Yvonne Williams 61:13, 256th Shirley Howman 75:42

I’ve decided to present the parkrun results in a different way this weekend, just copying and pasting from the parkrun page…saves me typing out the individual times and you can link to the full results as well…gets my vote for future weekends! Missing from the Barry Island results….Andy Pearce finished 2nd in 19:14

parkrun P & D Heroes for this weekend? Laurie Smith at Killerton, dipping under 24 minutes for the first time, Colin Caesar achieving a Barry Island PB, and Janice Clement clocking up her 50th different parkrun venue at Lanark Moor. This report just in from north of the border….(thanks Clem!)
“Congratulations to Janice Clement on her 50th different parkrun location. Her adventure can perhaps be described as an Accidental Tourist to start, in that we were at a friend’s for the weekend and late on Friday evening discovered there was a parkrun just 800 metres away.

88th David Brown 42:09, 193rd (5th MW35) Ruth Cann 45:30, 517th James Buckingham 52:10, 568th (4th MW55) Bev Warburton 53:09, 620th Richard Jackson 53:45, 826th Mandy Barrington 57:46, 955th Darren Morgan 60:19
And finally, as ever, Steve New was out there running a marathon! This time it was The Keep on Running event in Margam Park, and Steve did indeed keep on running for 5:49:16, well done that man!
