Club championship hots up after Caerphilly 10k

30 Jun Club championship hots up after Caerphilly 10k

Men’s club championship

Ben Butler-Madden may have crossed the finish line 2nd from club in the Caerphilly 10k, but he still finds himself perched on the top of the men’s club championship. He’s 99 not out after running five out of six races. Marc Durkin, with a race in hand, is his nearest rival on 74 points. Rob Wilcox is next on 65 points, followed by Malcolm Bradley on 62 and Richard Jackson-Hookins on 58.

Ben also remains top of the senior men’s age category. It’s important to remember that if he won the overall crown he would be taken out of this division (to avoid winning two titles), so 1stplace in this division is very much up for grabs. Marc Durkin is the early contender on 74 points, followed by last season’s champion Richard Jackson-Hookins on 58 and Dave Mathews on 33.

Jon Lewis and Cameron Large clawed their way back into contention in the veteran men’s 40 division after running the Caerphilly 10k. But with four maximum point finishes Rob Wilcox remains at the top on 80 points, followed by Jon on 56 and Cameron on 35.

Nigel Adams has consolidated his position at the top of the veteran men’s 50 division on 75 points after running four races. Former champion Ian Warburton was the first person from this division to cross the finish line in the Caerphilly 10k, so he closes down the gap to 35 points on 40. Steve Goodfellow is next on 20, whilst Jonathan Lee notches up his first points of the season on 19.

Malcolm Bradley extends his lead in the veteran men’s 60 division after running the Caerphilly 10k. He’s now sitting fairly comfortably on 79 points, followed by Chris Nellins on 20.

Ladies club championship

Former champion Lisa Cleary has maintained her lead of the top of the ladies club championship as she sits on 97 points after running five races. Sarah Lees is next up on 84 points, followed by Lindsey Hunt on 66 and Yvonne Williams on 46.

Lindsey Hunt has stretched her lead at the top of the senior ladies division to 37 points, with her nearest rival being Ruth Cann on 39. Last season’s champion Louise Hunt is tied on 20 with Catrin Palfrey.

Michelle Hoey was the only runner from the veteran ladies 35 division taking part in the Caerphilly 10k, so she notched up a maximum point finish on 20. She’s now tied with Helen Griffiths and Clare O’Reilly.

Lisa Cleary leads the veteran ladies 45 division on 97 points. Sarah Lees is just five points behind her on 92, whilst the rest of the chasing pack have three races in hand and more than 50 points to catch up with. Cath Tailby is the closest on 40, followed by Debbie Evans on 39.

Judy Maragna has started a mid-season surge for the veteran ladies 55 division by notching up her first points of the year. Yvonne Williams still leads the way on 60 points, but Judy now has 20 points with two races in hand.
