24 Nov Weekend Roundup 23-24 November 2019
Cover girl this weekend is the ever-smiling Madeleine ‘Alice’ Attridge…great run from a few weeks back, the Bierton 10k, where she finished 2nd Woman and 13th overall in a super time of 48:31. Apparently her kids were less-than-impressed, but we are Madeleine…well done you!
Fast forward to this weekend, and some impressive parkrunning out there. Pride of place goes to Bethan Apglyn, who smashed her 5k PB out of the park (!) at Riverfront Newport with a fantastic 20:49, and a cheeky gatecrash on the P&D Women’s 5k (parkrun) rankings, joint 5th now with Lisa Cleary. Here’s Beth with some of her mates, several of whom notched up PBs as well….
I had to chuckle at Janice Clement’s Strava description of her run up at Springburn, which I hope she won’t mind me reproducing here….we’ve all been there with similar experiences, Janice!
“Interesting run this morning. Vied with a male runner from the top of the hill first time round all the way to the end. At one point, I told him he would have to work to beat me. He did. Outsprinted me on the final run-in. Then, while all this was going on, I caught up with Lucy on the 2nd lap. She just wouldn’t give in and although I overtook her on the hill, she didn’t let me get away and she totally left me behind on the final run-in. She’s 7 years old. You’ve got to take whatever positives you can from a drubbing like that. I got the best age-graded score out of the three of us, she says smugly”.
Here are the composite results….nice running by Gary Brown, 8th at Cardiff and Ruth Cann 1st Female at Penallta.

After Janice had taken on the might of Scotland’s under-8 girls, it was Clem’s turn…ok, they weren’t under 8, or girls for that matter, but it was in Scotland! He decided to get his feet wet with a bit of cross country, toeing the line in the Lanarkshire XC Championships. Don’t have full results, but Clem took 34:03 to cover 7.5k….great running, which I reckon might have been good enough for about 300th in a Gwent League…😉
Meanwhile there was more action on Sunday. Ian Southwell took on the Chilly 10k, which looks like a circuit at Castle Combe in Wiltshire. Ian finished a fine 14th in 36:36.
And “Mr Ultra” Steve New was back wearing his legs out again, with marathon #239, which was also his 18th long race of 2019. The Freezing Arundelle Greenham Common Marathon, which appears to have been 7km loops around the old RAF base. Interesting medal Steve…feel there is a whole world associated with this that I know nothing about!
