13 Jan Weekend Roundup 12-13 Jan 2019
First question….what’s the picture above all about? It’s tied in with our CF64 Race next Sunday. Here’s an extract from our Facebook page….
“Just over a week to go now to the 2019 CF64 Winter Race – and there are fewer than 50 places left before the registration deadline at 6:00 pm next Friday, January 18th. Fancy winning back your 2019 race entry fee – and a free place in the 2020 race too? If you do, just see if you can pick out our club chair’s footwear in the ‘after’ photo of our course recce run last weekend. Leave a comment below with the corresponding number (hint – it’s not Merlin the dog).
– One guess per runner
– You have to be in it (the 2019 race, that is) to win it
We’ll draw the winner from all the correct answers next Friday evening, just after the registration deadline (or earlier if the race sells out before then). Good luck”.

A fairly quiet weekend on the racing front, but still some great P & D performances to report.
A gang of trail runners headed west to the Tough Runner Buff 10k, held in Afan Forest, prime mountain bike country. Ben Butler-Madden continued with his rich vein of form , nabbing 2nd place overall (37:15) and 1st M35. He was followed in by Mike Morgan (45:07), and then a storming Rachel Eales, 1st in the Female Senior category (49:02) and 5th woman overall. Husband Tom Eales had a ding dong battle with Colin Caeser, both finishing on the same time (49:12), and both returning to form just in time for the next Gwent League! A minute back was a resurgent Frank Atherton, who took top spot in the M55 category (50:17), and kept himself clear of Cath Tailby, his nemesis at the Christmas Cracker (along with Santa Nellins…), but Cath still managed a fine 3rd place (50:38) in the F45 category. Great running all round, full results are here.
And here’s a nice picture of Frank’s prize……
And so to a summary of this weekend’s parkrun results….
Barry Island: 13th Kevin Chalke 21:06 (1st VM55), 44th Melissa Smith 24:42 (1st VW40), 153rd Paul Whitmarsh 33:31

Merthyr: 72nd Anna Helsing 33:40 (walking Bella?!)
Porthcawl: 174th Steve Goodfellow 26:38, 281st Andrea Goodfellow 29:36
Now far be it from me to suggest a bit of friendly rivalry, but interesting to note that Christopher Nellins is moving up an age category this year, so Malcolm are you ready?!
Last but not least, Julie Broughton took on the Riverbank Rollick 10 near Thornbury and finished a very respectable 15th in her F50 age category. Full results here, but I challenge you all to find Julie in there! Handy tip…her surname is spelt differently and she was entered under another club name! 😂 😂
