02 Feb Weekend Roundup 1-2 Feb 2020

Our “Cover Lad” today is new member Joe Turner, running the Ponty Reverse 10 in a brand-spanking new Blue and Yellow vest…welcome Joe. More detail of that race below, but there was lots going on earlier in the weekend.

On Friday Night, it was the Annual P & D Awards Presentation Evening, combined with the unique experience known as “The Mandy Barrington Quiz”….you can read all about it in its own separate roundup.

Saturday morning saw plenty of parkrun action from Club members, both running and volunteering. Congratulations to Louise Hunt who completed her first stint as Run Director at Cosmeston Lakes, and apart from a random horse it appeared to run with no hitches. Some great running at our “home” course, too….Freddie Brown was first finisher in a course PB time of 18:13, and he was followed in by Paul McGilvray who finished 3rd and crept ever-closer to the magical 20 minutes. John Davies took another chunk out of the V65 record he set last week, with a tremendous 21:49.

Our second 2020 Club Championship Race took place on Sunday, the popular Ponty Reverse 10, which is a mixture of cycle path and some stretches of rocky, wet double track. Great marshalling on the course, with some familiar faces (and bobble hats) out there…..

Fantastic running by our first three home; Ian Southwell was 5th overall (1st Senior Male) and he was supported by Andy Pearce and David Brown to pick up the Overall Team prize. Here are some action shots and the collection of the victors’ booty….

There was strong running further down the field too…Bethan Apglyn and Steven Barker, the recipients of the 2019 Improvers of the Year Award on Friday night, worked together to produce solid finishes, with Bethan achieving a 10 mile PB by 9 seconds (76:27).

Lisa Cleary took the MW55 victory, no doubt “running scared” with the legend that is Malcolm Bradley breathing down her neck!

Provisional results: 5th Ian Southwell 60:44, 14th Andy Pearce 67:57, 21st David Brown 71:17, 27th Kit Lambert 72:12, 28th Dave Mathews 72:22, 44th Joe Turner 76:05, 48th Bethan Apglyn 76:29, 55th Terry McCarthy 77:16, 59th Steven Barker 77:57, 80th Gareth Davies 81:04, 83rd Malcolm Bradley 82:07, 85th Lisa Cleary 82:13, 114th Jon Lewis 88:58, 127th Peter Trott 90:56, 138th Bev Warburton 94:13, 140th Darren Morgan 94:29, 151st Sophie Gott 95:18, 173rd Emma Healy 100:27, 177th Steve Goodfellow 101:25, 188th Andrea Goodfellow 105:27.

Excellent running from every one of the Club who took part. Full results can be found on the Ponty Roadents Facebook page here.
