29 Jun Swansea Half Marathon 2016 – Report from Rich
On Sunday the 26th of June 2016 some of the troops from P&D travelled west to the bay of Swansea to tackle the Swansea Half Marathon. It was the race’s 3rd appearance on the running calendar, and with near perfect conditions the runners lined up ready to tackle the flat and fast course. The race started in the city centre heading west to the Mumbles area before switching back and running along the beach promenade. The views of Swansea Bay heading east along the beach promenade were spectacular with good crowds supporting along the way. The finishing straight was run back along the city centre with enthusiastic crowds cheering the runners home.
Although this race was not part of the Penarth and Dinas club championship series, it was still a good turn out from Penarth and Dinas Runners with some PB’s achieved along the way.
Richard Jackson-Hookins finished first from club with a PB in 1hr 17.28. He finished in 23rd place out of 4280 finishers. Ben Butler-Madden was next finisher for P&D in 1hr 17.43. He finished 25th overall. Next up was Jonathan Sailsbury in 1.28.55, Paul Morton running a PB in his first race for P&D finished in 1.41.32, then Helen Griffiths in 1.49.28, next was Peter Balmont in 1.54.01, Tim Monckton finished in 2.02.19 and Nigel Adams was next in 2.04.01.
All the runners enjoyed the race and were impressed by the organisation. The race village had a good atmosphere before and after the race and runners were presented with medals and T-shirts when they completed the course on the finish line. If you’re after a fast half marathon not too far from home then this one is for you! I’m sure the 4th edition of the race will be just as successful as the first 3.
Well done team P&D!
