05 Sep Rose Inn Relays (4th Sept 2018)
After a large turnout for the Cardiff 10k on Sunday, the P & D “Blue and Yellow Army” were on the move again….this time to the small village of Redwick on the other side of Newport. Captain Ben Butler-Madden had rustled up no less than seven teams of three runners each, in a varied collection of categories. Well done Ben, brilliant effort to get so many club members to race on a mid-week evening.
And Ben’s efforts didn’t stop there….he anchored P & D “Dragons” to a fine win in the Allcomers Mixed Team category, recording the 3rd fastest time of the night (10:09 for the 3km course). The team was set off by Colin Caeser, unsure of his form, but still recording an excellent 12:25, followed by newly married Debbie Evans with a solid 13:27. Great team effort, hope Ben shared the chocolate!
There were some brilliant team performances in other categories too…P & D “Dreamers (Yvonne Williams, Shirley Howman and Mandy Barrington) were 3rd in the Ladies M2 category, P & D “Diamonds” (Beth Apglyn, Louise Hunt and Cath Barker) were 4th in Ladies M1, and P & D “Youth Development Squad” (youngsters Malcolm Bradley, Ian Warburton and Chris Nellins) were 5th in Men M2 (that’s for youths with a combined age over 150 years!)
The other P & D teams were a diverse mix of youth, experience and good-natured banter! Particularly impressive were “The Real 3 Amigos (Stephen Farmer, Jon Lewis and Peter Trott), their overall time a massive 3 minutes ahead of another team called “The 3 Amigos” (albeit in a totally different category!)
P & D “Dashers” (Julie Broughton, Kate Cheshire and Gareth Davies) finished 8th in the All Mixed category, and P & D “Diablos” (Glenn Powell, Steven Barker and Mark Taylor) were 20th in the highly competitive Men M1 (that’s young Vets to you and me…)
Here are a selection of photos (Gareth, Chris and Cath) from Malcolm Bradley (thanks!), and a link to the provisional results
I’ve also cut and pasted the Club results below…..
