Ron Skilton Half Marathon – Race Reviews

23 Oct Ron Skilton Half Marathon – Race Reviews

Nigel’s Review

My second trip out to the Ron Skilton memorial mountain half marathon. A colder day with a cutting edge to the wind. Along for a great run my good friend Ian Lowton, as well as P&D diehards, Yvonne Williams, Lisa Cleary, Anna Helsing and Sara El-Khatib. The first three miles is a punishing climb of nearly 2000ft. At times you have to walk as the continuous climb takes its toll, but then you’re at the top and you get a lovely 4 mile run back down into Llanwrtydd Wells. The scenery is breathtaking at the top, but it was a bit cloudy today. Back to the Neudd Arms, a quick cup of water and off on leg two, here the fields, the mud and the slopes start to take their toll. It’s hard going and at places again you just have to slow down and take it carefully. Then you’re back on to forest tracks and eventually you drop down into the woods to the ford, a quick skip across and you start to climb a stony path that just keeps going up and up. Eventually you hit the top, get a wave from the marshall and you’re on the downhill slope to home. Off the hill and back onto tarmac the road gets steeper and goes on for about half a mile, then you’re on the flat and running in. Never so glad to see Lisa and Yvonne, who have long since finished cheering us home. Sprint finish, medal, glug of water, then straight into the pub for a cheese and tomato sandwich and a cup of tea, courtesy of the Skilton family. Anna and Sarah are only a matter of seconds behind us and all of P&D come home. Well done to Ian his first major mountain run, great effort pal. Happy days, mud everywhere, bath when I got home, courtesy of the lovely Karen Adams…….bliss

Lisa’s Review

A lovely day out in Llanwrtydd Wells (smallest town in Britain!). Worth the long drive for the amazing scenery, fab views, teas and coffee/sandwiches and superbly organised/friendly race. Undoubtedly the toughest half marathon I have ever done! 😁

72nd. Yvonne Williams 2.15.28
100th. Nigel A Adams 2.28.45 (bit hillier/muddier than the Amsterdam marathon he ran last week!)

Awesome Yvonne Williams ….. First in age category at Ron Skilton Half Marathon 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🏆
