Newport Marathon 29th April 2018
A record turnout for a marathon of 19 P&D completed the first Newport Marathon on Sunday; well done everyone 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 a very well organised (once chaotic transport sorted!), fast, flat course in near perfect running conditions.
Jonathan Salisbury led the way home in 3.20.43, followed closely by Simon ‘cyrill’ Grant, with a huge 30min pb finishing in 3.22.22, Andy Jones was next also with a pb in 3.25.42, despite only just making it to the start in time due to traffic problems!
Ruth Cann was next with a superb sub 3.30 pb and new club ladies marathon record of 3.28.57 even tho she ran the London marathon the previous week. Colin Caesar was next in 3.40.10. Lisa Cleary also ran London last week, 3.42.33. Andrea Hurman 3.46.58, ran the whole race with her brother, Geoff, as a training run ready for Comrades, South Africa June. Also using the race as a training run for her forthcoming 50 mile ultra race, Debbie Evans 3.48.55 ran 6 miles before the start!
Amazing pacing for a sub 4 marathon, Rachel Eales, who also ran London with an injury, paced husband Tom Eales around in 3.59.47. Another pb for Michelle Hoey, having a great run in 4.09.58. Louise Hunt 4.14.19 used the race as a training run for another upcoming marathon. Mandy Barrington, another ‘doubler’ London/Newport did well to finish in 4.33.35 closely followed by Sarahbetty Lees, who was just outside her pb with 4.34.30. Tim Monckton was next in 4.42.40.
Yvonne Williams did a triple ……. London/Pentyrch/Newport! and did very well to finish in 4.44.02. On her debut to becoming a ‘marathon runner’ Emma ‘shuey’ Shumack enjoyed the whole experience and did very well to finish in 5.02.43, very closely followed by Susannah Kingdon also a first timer marathoner but looking forward to her next, 5.07.04 then Nigel A Adams , also ultra training in 5.12.56.

Fresh from her 1st lady position at the Great Welsh Marathon, Cath Barker finished in a superb pb time of 42.20 placing her on the podium for P&D club ladies record.
Good to se Steve Hill, 49.27 and Abyd Quinn Aziz 56.14 back racing well.
