02 Sep Cardiff 10k road race (2nd Sept 2018)
This was always going to be a popular race for P & D members, being relatively local and a Club Championship event. We had 20 finishers in a field of over 5600, and some great performances to boot. Pride of place must go to Gary Brown, who really brought home the quality cheeseboard today. Hot on the heels of his success last week taking the win at the Llantwit Major 10k trail race, he formed a rocket-fueled express train with Ben Butler Madden, to finish a well-up 38th in the brilliant PB time of 33:46.
Ben stuck to him like a limpet, and finished just 2 seconds behind, bagging 40th place and a feeling that he’s getting back into his best form. Gareth Poston from Port Talbot snapped this great photo of Captain Ben in full flight….
Next home for P & D, and finishing well within 40 minutes were Nathan Christoforato (39:01) and Jon Ely (39:37), with Jon finishing 20th in the highly competitive M40+ category.
Dave Matthews has been whipping himself into shape on the “Tempo Tuesday” sessions, trying to hang onto Gary and Ben! He ran a solid 41:27 and sneaked inside the top 300. Kit Lambert, decked out in those distinctive white stockings, skipped his way to a fine 42:59 PB.
Great running too from Ruth Cann on the comeback trail recovering from injury and finishing a fine 11th in the F35+ category (44:55). Also well-positioned in his age category (M60+) was Malcolm Bradley, although he was typically self-depreciative in playing down his excellent well-paced 45:54. Yet another fine PB was recorded by Beth Apglyn…46:16 and smiling all the way round!
The fine age category results continued, this time in F40+, and recorded by Cath Barker who finished 8th in a solid 46:47. Prize for the best “Face of Suffering” must surely go to Josh Davies, who was thankfully rewarded with a PB 49:04 and a new resolve to train hard for the Cardiff Half Marathon (and hopefully gurn his way to another PB!)
The full results can be found on the TDL Events Services website, but I’ve cut and pasted the P & D results below…well done to everyone who finished. There were a couple of runners in our club vest not listed as P & D; Tim Beswick ran 58:35 for 2425th place, and Hannah Clark ran 60:22 for 2802nd…well done both.
And thank you to all the photographers out there; here are a selection of Blue and Yellow heroes.
