Weekend Roundup (29-30 Sept 2018)

30 Sep Weekend Roundup (29-30 Sept 2018)

It was mainly parkrun and training activity this weekend, but first let’s give a big Blue and Yellow welcome to our new members who have joined us during September. Drum roll and big round of applause please for……

Melissa Smith

Susan Preston

Freddie Brown

Peter Balmont

Jason Gill

Madeline Attridge

We had two parkrun winners!  Ben Butler-Madden put on his “Blue Suede Shoes”, said it was “Now or Never”, and ran like a “Hound Dog” to take the top spot at Porthcawl (16:50)…which just happened to be hosting an Elvis Presley gathering!  Thanks to Ally Twigg for these photos of Beth Apglyn, Kate Cheshire and assorted admirers.

Gary Brown was victorious at Grangemoor parkrun (17:07), but needs to watch his back.  There is another Brown biting at his ankles, keen to take the coveted title of “Fastest Brown in P & D”….Freddie Brown finished 8th (18:59) and smashed his parkrun PB by over 30 seconds.

Loads of other strong runs to report…at Barry Island, Nathan Chistoforato was only a second outside his PB (4th in 18:55) and Kevin Chalke beat last week’s PB by 4 seconds (11th in 20:17). Melissa Smith equalled her PB of last week (24:45).

Back at Grangemoor, there were some monster PBs, with Chris Herdman taking 15 secs off (21:38), Gareth Davies taking 10 seconds off (23:08) and James Buckingham knocking off a massive 31 secs (23:34).

Meanwhile over in “the Wild West”, Louise Hunt finished 2nd woman at Haverfordwest in 23:36, which equalled her PB for that course.

As ever, you can find all the P & D results here, but to make it a bit easier I’ve compiled them here….

Elsewhere, P & D runners were out and about training and volunteering at various events. Hero of the Weekend Award must go to Malcolm Bradley, who went beyond the call of duty to make the Sunday Morning Run a pleasant one. In spite of being in the first throes of a mystery lurgy, our Malcolm was out with his trusty shears on Saturday afternoon to take on the ferocious stingers & brambles of Wenvoe Common.

BEFORE…..

AFTER….

He also ran up the hill above his training companions (Yvonne, Freddie, Anna, Sarah and Mandy) to take the fine photo you see at the top of the page.

It’s a biggie next weekend…the Cardiff Marathon on Sunday. Best of luck to all of you who are running!
