12 Mar Welsh Cross Country Championships – Swansea
Welsh Cross Country Championships, Swansea – 25th February
On a cold and damp Saturday morning a small team of Blue and Yellow dragons set off to Swansea for the annual Welsh Cross Country Championships in Singleton Park Swansea. A hilly and muddy course the women’s race was underway first, with our Welsh Masters XC international Yvonne Williams putting in a medal winning performance, taking home the Welsh athletics silver medal in the M60 category.
Not long after the women’s race the conditions made a turn for the worse with a monsoon turning the course into a mud bath just in times for the men’s race. After a head to head battle with 2 Aberdare runners for much of the race Ben Butler-Madden put in a sprint finish to claim a bronze in the M35 category, finishing 13th overall.
Following Ben home in the M35 team (runners aged 35-40) there were fine performances from Andy Jones (67th, 7th in age category) and Glenn Powell (100th) to secure a team bronze for the M35 team. Also making his cross country debut we had Mike Morgan putting in a strong debut to finish in 90th.
